Norfolk Cares Assistance Center: Complaint Form

The Norfolk Cares Assistance Center is a single-point-of-contact for residents seeking information about or requesting service from the City of Norfolk. Through Norfolk Cares, citizens can request a City service, obtain information on City services, or receive an update on a previous request for City service. Norfolk Cares staff may make a referral to a specific department if their expertise is needed. Call 757-664-6510 Monday through Friday between 8:00am and 6:00pm.

Report It: A free online database you can use to catalog your personal possessions. Norfolk Police use the database and have recovered property entered by residents after it was taken during a burglary.

Request For Special Collections: Special collection refers to the removal of large bulky items and other items that will not fit in the container including appliances, furniture, mattresses, limited quantities of excess yard waste, limited quantities of construction debris, overflow garbage, and moving boxes, etc. from move-ins. These items are collected upon request by a separate truck on your regular collection day. Up to 12 special collections per year are permitted.

Trash Link: On collection day, carts must be at curbside by 7 a.m. and removed by 11:30 p.m. Place all trash in bags before placing in green cart. Carts should face the street and be three feet from parked cars, trees and other objects. Do not place carts under electrical wires.

Recycle Pick Up: 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month. Reminder: Plastic bags are a big no‐no in your recycling cart ‐ Plastic bags, whether kitchen trash, shopping, produce, or other bags are not accepted in your blue recycling cart. Even if they contain recyclable materials. During the mechanical sorting process, those plastic bags blow around and clog the machinery, keeping it from functioning. Return your plastic bags for recycling to participating grocery stores such as WalMart, Harris Teeter, Farm Fresh, Food Lion and Kroger (or better yet, take reusable shopping bags!). Use paper bags instead for storing and carrying household recyclables to your blue recycling cart.

Street Sweeping: 3rd Thursday of every month The program reduces the amount of pollutants reaching our waterways. It also prevents pollutants from being washed into storm water drains and pipes where it may cause the system to clog, increasing the possibility of flooding.

The Division of Waste Management is now accepting both household hazardous and unwanted electronics at convenient Public Works locations. All that is needed is proof of Norfolk residency and city employees will be at the location to assist in unloading materials. By using the sites below it will improve the safety of the city and promote environmental stewardship so please utilize and encourage your neighbors to use these sites.

Household Hazardous Waste(HHW) such as automotive fluids, old paints, and fluorescent bulbs cannot be disposed of in the City’s green trash carts and blue recycling carts. HHW can cause fires and other environmentally damaging conditions. However, you can take these items to:
